Treatment Programs

Evidence-based programs tailored to your unique recovery needs

Medical Detox

At HBHS Rehab, medical detoxification serves as the carefully managed gateway to recovery. Our La Jolla campus provides 24-hour physician and nursing supervision in a serene coastal environment where patients can focus entirely on stabilization. We employ medication-assisted protocols tailored to the specific substance of dependence — whether alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or stimulants.

Most detox stays last between 3 and 10 days, determined by the substance involved, the severity of dependence, and any co-existing medical conditions. Throughout the process, Dr. Rajiv Patel and our medical staff monitor vitals continuously, adjust medications responsively, and provide the emotional reassurance that makes a difficult period more bearable. Upon medical clearance, patients transition directly into residential or outpatient programming without interruption.

Residential Treatment

Our residential program envelops patients in a 30- to 90-day therapeutic experience built around structure, connection, and personal accountability. Within our 48-bed La Jolla campus — set against the backdrop of the Pacific — residents follow a purposeful daily schedule that weaves together individual therapy, evidence-based group sessions, family engagement, and holistic wellness programming.

Clinical interventions include CBT, DBT, EMDR, motivational enhancement therapy, and 12-Step integration, while our coastal setting enables unique complementary activities such as guided beach walks, ocean-view meditation, and outdoor fitness sessions. Treatment plans are co-created by patients and their clinical team, ensuring that goals remain personally meaningful and therapeutically sound throughout the stay.

Outpatient Program

HBHS Rehab offers both Intensive Outpatient and standard Outpatient tracks, each designed to deliver meaningful clinical engagement without requiring patients to leave their daily responsibilities behind. Sessions are held at our La Jolla facility and draw on the same evidence-based therapies used in our residential program.

The IOP track consists of 9 to 15 weekly hours of group therapy, one-on-one counseling, and relapse-prevention workshops. As patients demonstrate stability and growing self-efficacy, they step down to our standard outpatient track at 3 to 6 hours per week. Both tracks include routine toxicology screening, family participation opportunities, and a robust aftercare blueprint connected to the broader San Diego County recovery community.

Dual Diagnosis

Many individuals entering treatment carry both a substance use disorder and an undiagnosed or undertreated mental health condition such as major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, or bipolar disorder. At HBHS Rehab, our dual diagnosis program treats these intertwined conditions simultaneously, recognizing that leaving one unaddressed dramatically increases the risk of relapse.

Our psychiatric and clinical teams collaborate from the first assessment through discharge, crafting unified care plans that encompass individual psychotherapy, psychiatric medication management, specialized co-occurring disorder groups, and practical coping-skills training. Patients leave our La Jolla campus equipped not only with sobriety strategies but with a comprehensive mental health toolkit designed for the challenges of everyday life.
